It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce you to our Anesthesiology Residency Program at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville.   • Excellence in High Acuity and High-Volume Patient Care
    Our department provides comprehensive anesthetic care across a wide range of specialties, including:
    • Trauma Care
      As the state of Florida's first accredited Level 1 trauma center, UF Health Jacksonville is at the forefront of trauma care. Our residents gain unparalleled experience in managing high-acuity patients with complex traumatic injuries. This exposure ensures that you develop the confidence and expertise required to handle the most challenging cases with precision and compassion.
    • Cardiac Anesthesiology
      You will be involved in high-volume cardiac surgeries, including complex valve repairs and coronary artery bypass grafting, providing critical care to patients with significant cardiovascular pathology. You will have an opportunity to complete case numbers allowing your sit for your Basic TEE certification after you earn your American Board of Anesthesiology certification.
    • Orthopedic Anesthesiology
      Our program offers extensive experience in orthopedic procedures, from routine joint replacements to complex orthopedic trauma.
    • Obstetrics and Gynecology
      You will provide anesthesia for a variety of obstetric and gynecological procedures, including high-risk pregnancies and advanced gynecological surgeries.
    • Neuroanesthesiology
      Gain experience in the anesthetic management of patients undergoing intricate neurosurgical procedures, including brain and spine surgeries. Additionally, our residents have the unique opportunity to rotate at the Mayo Clinic for advanced Neuroanesthesiology training, further enhancing their expertise.
    • Pediatric Anesthesiology
      Our program offers exceptional opportunities in pediatric anesthesiology, including rotations at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, a leading pediatric hospital. You will also have the opportunity to engage with the UF Proton Therapy Institute, gaining experience in cutting-edge treatments for pediatric patients.
    • Regional and Acute Pain
      You will learn and perform a variety of regional anesthesia techniques, gaining proficiency in managing acute postoperative pain effectively.
    • Non-Operating Room Anesthesiology (NORA)
      Our residents rotate through the cath lab, interventional radiology, and other NORA locations, ensuring a well-rounded exposure to anesthesia outside the traditional operating room setting.
    • Critical Care Medicine
      Our program emphasizes the integration of anesthesiology and critical care medicine with anesthesiologists staffing critical care units. You will rotate through various ICUs, managing critically ill patients with complex medical and surgical conditions. This includes participating in multidisciplinary rounds and developing skills in advanced life support, mechanical ventilation, and invasive monitoring.
    • Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)
      Our residency program offers certification opportunities in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), a crucial skill set for modern anesthesiologists. Mastery of POCUS enhances your diagnostic and procedural capabilities, significantly improving patient care.
    • Chronic Pain Medicine
      Engage in comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of chronic pain, working closely with our pain medicine specialists to provide holistic care to patients with chronic pain conditions.
  • Academic and Research Opportunities
    Our commitment to academic excellence is reflected in our rigorous curriculum, which includes didactic sessions and simulation training, with one day per week set aside specifically for resident education. Our residents engage in research and scholarly activities, supported by our faculty who are involved in innovative research projects. Annually, our residents participate in scholarly activities, contributing abstracts, publications, and presentations from local to national forums.
  • Teaching Opportunities
    Our program provides numerous opportunities for residents to teach medical students and junior residents. This experience enhances your leadership skills and reinforces your own knowledge base, preparing you for future roles as educators and mentors.
