Frequently Asked Questions Anesthesiology Residency What is the working environment like at UF-Jacksonville? Our clinical campus has a very collegial environment. Relationships among faculty, residents, CRNAs, CAAs and students within our department are professional and cordial. Likewise relationships with our colleagues within other departments are excellent particularly among the residents who all rotate as equal members of various rotation teams within Medicine, Surgery and Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery. Do you allow moonlighting? Moonlighting is allowed for non-visa holders. PGY-3 & PGY-4 residents in good academic standing may work-day shifts on Saturdays and Sundays as long as they remain compliant with ACGME work hour rules. What is the call schedule like? Residents on Clinical Anesthesia rotations will have an average of 3-4 weeks of night float per year. Night float is Thursday through Wednesday 7pm-7am. We are an integrated categorical program so all internship training is under the control of the Anesthesiology program and occurs throughout the first 3 years of training. Our residents complete 4 blocks of ward rotations (2 Internal Medicine and 2 Surgery), 1 block each of ICU, chronic pain and 2 blocks of IM consults before starting Anesthesia Orientation in February of the PGY-1 year. The remaining internship rotations in integrated into the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years. Our PGY-1 residents attend departmental conferences and participate in all of the various social events.
