Application Review Process

To promote objectivity and fairness in our selection process, we employ a holistic review of applications, guided by a structured scoring system that reflects the qualities and competencies we value in candidates. Our goal is to foster a culture of excellence and provide a safe, inclusive environment where all individuals, experiences, and differences are welcomed, respected, and valued.

Our interview process includes standardized questions to ensure a consistent and equitable evaluation of all applicants. While we consider multiple aspects of each application, we do maintain exam score thresholds: a minimum USMLE Step 2 CK score of >240 and a COMLEX Level 2-CE score of >540.

Interview Information

Following recommendations by the AACPD, we will have all virtual interviews via Zoom. Both video and audio will be used during the interviews.

The interview experience begins the evening before the scheduled date with a virtual happy hour hosted by our residents. This informal event provides candidates with an opportunity to connect with current residents and gain an authentic sense of our program in a relaxed setting.

On interview day, the schedule will start with a brief welcome and program overview, followed by a meeting with the department Chair. Candidates will then participate in four 13-minute interviews with faculty members from our recruitment committee, as well as a virtual escape room activity with a chief resident.

The day also includes a virtual tour of the hospital, highlighting key areas such as the operating rooms, labor and delivery unit, post-anesthesia care unit, and pre-op holding area. The interview day will conclude with a final meeting with the program director, offering an opportunity to address any remaining questions.
